Whoever Smelt It..

Where: Austin, TX

When: September 17th, 2026, about 10:45PM

Description of Event (as relayed by witness):

I was walking my dog near Ladybird Lake when she stopped dead in her tracks and began to sniff at the air pretty seriously. I didn’t think too much of it and tried myself to sniff out whatever she was smelling. And sure enough, like a wall of it just smacked me in the face. It smelled definitely like skunk but there was something else to it too. Like burning ions, if that’s even something people can smell.

Then I saw it above the trees I was under. At first I noticed it as the lights moved past the branches which cast an array of fractious shadows on and around me. I looked up and immediately moved out from under the tree to get a better look. At this point I thought it was just a helicopter or maybe a big drone but once I had a clear look at it I just couldn’t believe it was a drone. It was at least as long as a high school basketball court from tip to tip and had three points making it essentially an equilateral triangle. A really big dark triangle with the exception of a white light in each corner. If I had to guess it was 30th stories up (if it’s as big as I think).

It was moving at a consistent pace generally south but was also rising steadily. I also thought I saw liquid dropping around it, like it was raining under it but then that stopped. I noticed the smell again which was really strong and was actually making me really uncomfortable. Not to mention, Jenny, my dog, is going crazy barking now.

Then, out of nowhere, it just zipped off. Not in exactly the same direction it was going though. It definitely had a change of direction towards the east. It moved faster than anything I’ve ever seen but I could probably see it for 2-3 seconds before it disappeared over the horizon. Seemingly staying in the atmosphere. The smell immediately disappeared and Jenny chilled out like nothing happened.

Definitely one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen and wish I had gotten a pic. Not into aliens but it wasn’t like anything I knew we humans were capable of. That smell still sticks with me though. Not like I can actually smell it but the memory of it is so vivid it’s almost real…
